Anyone running the alltrax SPM 72650?
Looking for some feed back on the alltrax 72 volt, 650 amp controller, a search here, and on the web did not provide much info, other than the frozen one on you tube.

Re: Anyone running the alltrax SPM 72650?
I can't say for the 650 amp controller but I have been running my 72 v 450 amp now for over ten years without one problem. I ran it in the Mud buggie for 5 years and now the monster cart for at least 5 years.I also used it in the dragster a few runs also when the other controller went out.

Re: Anyone running the alltrax SPM 72650?
Andy, wow, thats cool. As you know I am converting over to series, contactor new motor ect, I got to thinking at this point it aint that much more to go to 72 volts, I mean 3 more 8volt batts and a new 72v charger.
What would you recommend as far as the motor goes? Have robby build a monster 48v torque motor, or a dedicated 72v motor? I also found out that FSIP is making a 72v, 700 amp series controller, may go that way, as it is almost half as much as the alltrax SPM |

I have been reading old threads from as far back as early 2012, how did that PQ 72 volt motor work out for you , you never said in that thread you started?

Re: Anyone running the alltrax SPM 72650?
Here is what I tell everyone.
72 volts and a 450 amp controller is like a 36 volt cart with a 700amp controller only more powerful. The motor is never missed a lick. Robby built me a bullet proof motor for all my carts so far. I would have him do you a 72 volt motor if it was me. I'm not going to tell u 700amp controller isn't better than a 450 amp one but I will say this, how many times will you need 700 amps and I bet the 700 amp rating is only for 1 minute at the most. I just don't see are justify the money for it when 450 will be more than enough. |

Re: Anyone running the alltrax SPM 72650?
I hear ya, other than the alltrax SPM, most of the controllers I have been seeing are around the $450-500 range, regardless of amperage (or voltage for that matter), so I figure why not get the 700 amp? My goal here is to have the best of both worlds. (torque and speed) without going to a very expensive AC drive system. (Over double the cost of this conversion.)
I am not trying for any land speed records here, just monster torque and mid 20's for mph. Would I like to stay at 48 volts, sure would be a lot easier, but I don't see how to get torque and speed at the lower voltage. |

Re: Anyone running the alltrax SPM 72650?
My green monster cart does 22MPH on level ground and has enough torque to pull the front wheels off the ground if I want it to.
The cart has more than enough torque to climb with. I have been to the CAW 3 times with it and it has performed above all my expectations. |

Scott - I have a 72v fsip controller I don't need. It's used. It was only used for bench testing though. Let me know if you are interested

Re: Anyone running the alltrax SPM 72650?
I installed a SPM 72400 in a ezgo I built 10 months ago. I sold it a while back. New owner called and said it wasn't running recently. It's out of state otherwise I'd help him out with it. He took it to the shop and the controller had failed. It no longer was putting out 5v to the ITS. I don't know if this is an SPM wide problem or a one-off issue but he had to buy another controller. Sucks.
I don't think the SPM series controllers have been out very long, certainly not 10 years so Andy must have had a different series 72v alltrax. |
