Welding cable size
I have some welding cable I'm going to use on my 36v TXT soon. I just need to know what size it is so I know what terminals to buy. The outside diameter of the cable including the shielding is 0.61 inches and the wire itself is 0.42 inches.
Any ideas? |

Re: Welding cable size
Looks like 1/0 to me ,def looks bigger than #2, best thing to do would be cut a short piece off and take it to a welding supply store near you, or a NAPA.

Re: Welding cable size
Od mean outside diam including the shieth
there is a difference between 1 gauge and 1/0 , and now I am second guessing what you have, maybe 1 gauge instead of 1/0 here is a link to waytec for the pellets and terminal ends http://www.waytekwire.com/wps/portal...pSearch=solder pellets&psType=P |

Re: Welding cable size
We use #1 (1 gauge) cable for the drag cart. The total outside is barely under 1/2". I don't have digital calipers. I also have a roll of #2 which measures 3/8 overall. I'd say what the OP has is proabably 1/0. Way overkill for a normal car but it will certainly work. I use all crimped lugs. I bought the hyd. crimper at Harbor Freight and it has worked great and I've made a ton of cables. #1 cable with crimped lugs flows 1000+ amps and 200+ volts just fine.
Or we could just refer to this chart... http://www.weldingcable.biz/welding_...ize_chart.html |

Re: Welding cable size
Thanks for the chart on wire size. Interesting to note the the max amp load between 6,4, and #2.

Re: Welding cable size
Best solution is take a small peice to local welding supply and match it to the right lugs. Then get on line and order the ones u need. In my past I have found you don't save a whole lot either way. Just depends on the supplier I guess.
