Default How much $ and what parts to go 35mph?

I'm new to the cart world and the 04 Precedent I just recently acquired is my first ever cart. I took the cart down to the Club Car dealer and had them change the cart to speed setting 4 cause doing 13mph ain't for me! Took it out for a spin today and hit 20mph with the 3 other riders on it, so I figured if I kicked them off I'd gain a couple MPH's. Much to my surprise the cart still topped out at 20mph. I'm no physics genius but dropping several hundred pounds should have gained me some speed? Since I was now confused I turned to Google which is where I somewhat learned about regenerative braking. Is this something I can remove? The main goal I had when I got this thing was getting it to go between 30 to 35mph. I used to be a weekend drag racer so I'm quite familiar with the old phrase, "You can go as fast as you can afford". Is my wish of going 30 to 35 mph something that can be done? If so what can I expect to spend to accomplish this and how labor intensive of a project is it?

Thanks in advanced for any help anyone may be able to provide me!

-Mike

the short answer, taller tires, taller gears, increase voltage.

a nice plum quick motor , 700 amp controller , 2 ga wire, 4" to 6 " lift and 22/23 " tires on some 12's is a good place to start

Which motor would you recommend?

If it was a Ezgo at least $2,500 to 3000 club car could be more expensive

Here's my ~40 mph ezgo and it's for sale too. You can't build it for the price I'm asking.

I suggest you talk to Carl at EVDrives.com, He is knows what you will need and has the products to do it. The earlier responses point you to high speed gears or larger tires. They will work on flat land but the cart may grind to a halt going up steep hills. I learned by killing a a bunch of batteries and a motor doing it that way. I changed to upgrading the motor/controller wiring and solenoids. My cart is a Yamaha that does a measured 40mph on the flat and zips up the hills.

High speed gears (6:1) or medium speed gears (8:1) and larger tires will in fact make a cart much faster but if you are still on stock motor then you are asking for trouble in the long run. The stock motor will pull much too many amps since it would be loaded so much even on flat ground thus killing the batteries after a while. Golf cart batteries are not happy when they are asked to pull 100+ amps steady at max cruise. The batteries prefer 60 amps max on steady cruise or less if you can. That's where a custom motor comes in (and speed control too). The combination of speed controller and motor can provide off the line torque and low amp draw at max cruise speed.
