How many amp should I be drawing
Current set is: club car DS with alltrax 500,2 ga wire F/r contactor modified D&d motor by plumb quick and 24 in tires. I had problem wit the D&D drawing to many amps ( burning up battery post, solenoids and wires) sent it to plum quick for rework
I put a hand held amp meter on and at full throttle at 24 mph unloaded it was showing 110 amps coming off positive wire off of pack. Does this not sound right? Can the pack handle this? I never tested factory DD . Also to give you an idea I tested my percedent bone stock small tires and all. It showed 30-45 amps at 14 mph ( top speed) Russ |

Re: How many amp should I be drawing
I might do a test and put factory tires on instead of 24 inchers and see how the amps drop and speed slows.

Re: How many amp should I be drawing
You need to get the data form the controller if you can. Then you will be able to see the entire range of amp draw. 110 amps is certainly not melting the terminals.

Re: How many amp should I be drawing
Ok so i got another question about batteries. How many amps can a 48v pack discharge safely say for 10 sec before terminals began to melt. Assuming you had copper bars as connectors and a device that could draw huge amounts of Watts (volts x amps =watts)?

Re: How many amp should I be drawing
I'm just curious... I melted some post on my old motor.. I was just curious what a pack can be discharged at before you start melting things.

Re: How many amp should I be drawing
Most times melting post on batteries and motors is from either loose connections bad connections are a bad cell in the battery trying to operate the cart. Bad cables which are corrided up into the cable itself.

Re: How many amp should I be drawing
Agree with Andy. Almost always a melting post is a bad connection. Some of the drag cart guys go in the 2000+ amp neighborhood every run without melting anything.
