Default Battery time, need advice

Long story:

Bought an old club car ds about 4 years ago. Replaced all batteries with 6x6v US batteries. Drove it for about a year. Upgraded motor to plum quick, scrapped the resistors, and installed an alltrax 4844 controller. I added two more US batteries to the bag well. Ran it as a 48v 6x8 6v battery set up for two years.

This past summer I had one battery dead short while on vacation. Burnt wires replaced, battery replaced with a used Interstate battery that I pulled from a cart I serviced for a neighbor. So, one battery is not a match, but the cart is still running fine.

Yesterday:

I bought a 1996 eZgo txt 36v cart at an investment to fix up and resell. The price was right. All batteries are 100% dead.

My thought:

Buy all new 8v batteries x6 and put them in my personal golf cart. This gives me fresh batteries. Transfer my US batteries from my personal cart into the investment cart and sell it with usable, good, functional 36v batteries.

Here are my questions:

Will the investment golf cart sell for about the same price with working used batteries as it would with all brand new batteries? I fear I can't recover the investment for all new batteries.

Will I regret going to 6x8v batteries?

Which batteries should I buy? What are good prices?

When I bought the US batteries the small dealer claimed that US batteries were way better than Trojan T105's. The prices were certainly good at about $72 each. As of now, they are not selling US batteries and push the World Wide Trojan black box batteries. When asked why, they said Trojan has improved much in the past three years and US batteries couldn't keep them stocked. Their batteries are now $92 each and about a two hour round trip.

Farm and Fleet sells batteries for $91.99 and are 15 minutes away.

Walmart is 15 minutes away.

Interstate is 15 minutes away, last time I checked with them they wanted like $155 per battery!!!!

I hear about Sam's club batteries, but they are an hour away and I am not currently a member.

Of course I wanted to convert to lithium batteries, but this seems to premature from my research.

well If I have done my math right, based on your description above....your personal carts pack is roughly 3 1/2 years old.

you ask the question: "Will the investment golf cart sell for about the same price with working used batteries as it would with all brand new batteries?"

NO - that is depending on the knowledge of the person buying the cart anyways.

BUT I think you have a good idea on getting a new MATCHING set for your personal cart.

as far as going to 6 8v's, it really depends on a few things. you will lose a little overall run time.....but how much do you truly need? what is your typical daily distance you run?
As to which to buy, my suggestion, buy QUALITY batteries, and buy the Highest AH Rated batteries you can afford.....whether you are going with 6v or 8v.

Your comments about selling the second cart with my used batteries is my exact point in asking for opinions. If a typical golf cart buyer sees used batteries as worthless then I would be wasting my time in expecting to recover the investment. However, if investing in new batteries for this cart is a major motivator and sales aid, then spending the cash on new batteries for the investment cart be the better option. Of course buyers may not realize the value of those new packs and expect to get this commodity steeply discounted.

WELL as I mentioned before.....it really depends on the buyer. unless they are someone well versed in carts.....most people are not, and as long as they test drive the cart and it GOES.....they would be satisfied. even if they knew that the batteries are used, as long as it runs, most would be okay with it......and even at that, the good used batteries, properly cared for, are still good for another 1 1/2 years or so.

Buying the new batteries for your cart is the way to go. The run time want be that much of a differance to you unless you drive it 20 to 30 miles a day. Then you will notice it. Normal riding you will never miss it.

For putting the older batteries in the cart, yes that is fine and as stated most people want know the differance but... make sure you tell them they are getting the cart with used batteries. They sell them all the time with used no good batteries on the net for new cart prices.
I know as soon as I see a add for a cart that says good batteries what that means. It time for new ones!
