Default Wiring batteries in series and parrallel to double amp hours

Is it possible to wire in six additional batteries yet still remain 48volts but doubling the amp hours? If done correctly my 48 volt charger would still work it would just take longer to charge correct? Or am I totally out of my mind and should never be allowed to work on my cart again?

So to give a little more info, if this is possible I would be doing it on a stretch project. The additionals would be housed under the front pod.

I found a picture of it done with 6 volts but for space reasons I am thinking of going with 8 volts.

You could just use 8 6V batteries, that's what a lot of runtime obsessed guys do.

Yes you can do it. Is it worth the extra weight maybe maybe not. I would look at how you plan to use the cart really hard. If your only going to use it for a regular type cart the distance wouldn't be a factor to me since you will charge it every night anyway.

I suggest you look at 72 volts and have a stronger cart all the way around. The cost of it want be that much more than the extra batteries for the daul pack of 48 volts in the long run. You can sell the old charger and controller after you get it converted to 72.

There is no substitution for voltage in a electric cart.

Andy,

Thanks for the advice. I did just that in considering what I want it for and have decided it would be best to just sell it and buy gas instead. Since distance is more important than stealth its just a better way to go. But I feel better that my idea was at least plausible.
