72v ac conversion

anybody out there have any experience with the ac conversions? i am curious about the torque compared to the dc motors. i have a 48v ezgo with all the upgrades from scotty b. and love the torque but not the speed. age old dilemma i know. so would a high torque dc motor at 48v be comparable to a 72v ac one? Can a ac motor lift the front end or is it just wishful thinking?
