Removing an EZGO clutch

Hey yall, finally got my clutch puller and my new (used) clutch from Matt. I figured I would post some pics of the pulling and install, maybe it will help someone if they ever need to do it!

I packed the hole with grease before putting the puller in. It creates pneumatic pressure helping coax the clutch off the shaft.

Tightened it down and had someone hold the clutch. A few sharp cracks on the end of the ratchet and I was holding it in my hand!

Old one off, new one ready to go back on!
ezgo clutch install

Just put the new one on the taper and tightened down the bolt. DONE!
1 pg clutch

Easy as that!

Yea, just the outside though. The stationary sheave is steel on the newer one (thus the rust) and my old one was all aluminum. The innards of Matts is a lot cleaner and less worn than mine, which is all that matters. Best of all, it is quieter. My little sister comes out of the house when I am drivin the cart around and says "Hey, it doesn't sound like a golf cart anymore!" I just laughed and said that it sounds like a NORMAL golf car now... LOL

Thanks for the complement mphillip! I try to help others best I can when it comes to these older carts. I know from experience how difficult it is to find info and how-to's on them! I used to have instructions on how to change rear differential oil but it got lost in the hack... I should re-post it ey?

Ron, where should I post it? Here in EZGO? I don't want them to get lost in the mix of other posts...

I pulled my ezgo clutch with a 2 inch fine thread 3/4 bolt and about a 5 inch 5/8rod. Put the rod in the clutch hole , screwed in the bolt and popped the clutch off. This cost me 4.50 at the local hardware store, so if in a bind and don't have access to the 30 plus dollar puller , hit the hardware store:thumbup:
