Wheels and Tires
I currently have a stock cart but will be adding a lift kit and want taller tires to go with it. I am curious about the wheels/tires. Can I just get taller tires and have the put on the same wheels or do the wheels and tires both need to be upgraded.

Re: Wheels and Tires
You can get 22 inch tall tires that fit on the stock 8" rims. This is a good 4" taller tire than stock. Remember that taller tires increase gear ratio and this means lost torque, so you may need to upgrade the drive system too

Also, solenoid to HD solenoid, cable to 4ga or larger, forward/reverse switch
to HD f/r switch, if series cart. |

Re: Wheels and Tires
Mine is a PDS.
Sure sounds like a lot of changes just to add taller tires. When it comes time to replace the batteries, I will replace the 6 volt with 8 volt and make a lot of these changes then to convert to 48 volt. Until then, I will only change what I need to. I am looking to change the controller soon to one that will support 48 volt. The cables are relatively inexpensive so they will probably be an upgrade in the near future. But, I honestly don't believe I need to change the entire electrical system just to allow for taller tires. It's hard to justify adding $1,200 worth of components just to add $400 worth of tires. |

Re: Wheels and Tires
For flat ground, taller tires will give you higher speed, and the loss of torque will not be noticeable. Steep inclines are where you miss the torque. After switching tires, you can do a rough check of thermal losses by checking wires and F/R switch with your hand for "hot spots". Make sure all connections are clean and tight. DIY cable replacement is relatively inexpensive if cables are heating up.

Re: Wheels and Tires
I know some lift kits require a 10 inch rim. I would make sure the lift you are getting will work with the stock 8 inch rims before buying and mounting the tires.
