Gas Engine Swap on Electric cart
Decided to build a cart on a budget.
Material used: 5' of 1" square stock 6.5hp engine (pred212) Donor cart with Dana rear axle (6:1 gear ratio) comet Torque converter #41 chain rear axle hub was made from existing electric motor and welded 3/4 shaft and trued it. Rear sprocket is 13T Mounted everything to the rear axle to eliminate chain alignment issues Specs: 21mph top speed with plenty of torque to climb over curbs and go up hills. *about to drop 1 tooth in the rear and tweek engine to turn 8hp, trying to move boat around yard and do 25-30mph. Hope this helps others on a budget, Total Build Cost $425.00 |

Re: Gas Engine Swap on Electric cart
I did the same swap a couple years ago, except I used a nine tooth sprocket, even with a tensioner the 41 chain would be very hot and fail after a couple miles. More teeth on the sprocket may help, but I wish the comet had a 50 or 60 sprocket

Re: Gas Engine Swap on Electric cart
The Melix conversion was a success till a bad decision led to me bending my rear adapter. Has anyone ever cut open a solid rear axle removed all internals and ran same size shaft all the way through creating a live axle running inside the rear axle. This would eliminate needing to add brakes, or creating new mounts. I would only need to cut enough metal out of the diff for the chain with. I really like this cart due to its high speed and torque just need a better drive-line in the rear, positraction is a plus.
