120 volt welders
Really would like your input. Going to buy a Mig welder, but I want 120 volt. I like the "Lincoln" models and seems the more you spend the more you get. From welding thicknes to "bottle" attatchments included to the add on "aluminum" welder "spool gun"? Any help I would be greatfull. Thanks Dave

Re: 120 volt welders
I recently learned a little about this as I too wanted to learn to weld aluminum with my Lincoln Mig. I found that while I can buy wire and gas to weld aluminum chances are I will not be satisfied with the capability of my 175 to push the wire up the tube as it has done so well with all the steel I have been running. So a spool gun is in order but....I bought my 175 before the 185 came out with it's spool capacity....so I have the wrong welder and am really happy with it for bottle mig steel welding bu tit can't run the spool gun. I am not sure you will find anything that will weld aluminum in 110 volts because aluminum welding needs a lot of heat because it dissipates it so fast......I have been going to the neighbors TIG for my aluminum needs...Hope this helps Dave, Later
P.S. Talk with roady or PG about your welding machine needs |

Re: 120 volt welders
I think some aluminum welding schooling is required before buying. Just like that first arch welder I got. It sits in the corner, now. I just got my 1st TIG welding lesson. Since we had to use AC that day we needed 230 amps to work 1/4 inch material..... I also learned that softer metals like aluminum dissipate heat very fast, so you need more heat (amps) to make it work. I'm just throwing this out there to get the thinking going. I know there are some very educated welders on this site who could enlighten all of us on this subject......

Re: 120 volt welders
my neighbor had a "Lincoln " welder.he tried to get parts and found out this particular welder was manufactured in Poland. the supplier just laughed at him.be sure you know what you are buying and which model and where it was made.a cheap welder, even with a brand name is more expensive in the long run.

Re: 120 volt welders
My 2c even though more buy a small 220 as they are cheeper to run, tigging is done with ac and makes a nice weld, can also stick with a tig welder.
