Default Tube Benders

What is the story on these cheap benders? Will they be suffecient for bending roll cages and brush guards?

No that would collapse the tubing you would use for those projects. That bender is for pipe, which has a thicker wall than steel dom tubing. You need something like this:

You could also buy a cheap HF parts bender and get tubing dies from Metal and More.

That compact looks nice but its pricey! 589 bucks and then another 200 something to expand its tube sizes!!!!! and then it only goes up to 1'1/4.

I recommend this one

I have this same bender and I have added the Hydrolic kit, It works great and can do up to 2 inch tubing. Just buy the bender, buy or make a stand and the die you want and go to town.

Thanks for the info. The JD2 looks like a super nice bender for the price. That's the one I am going to save up for.

What kind of saw works best for clean straight cuts on tubing? I like my angle grinder but it's hard to get a straight cut on tubing with it.

Is there a certain tube notcher that you guys would recommend?

I use a chop saw for cutting the tube, and picked up a notcher at Harbor frieght for about $30. It's an el-cheapo but it does ok.

you obviously missed the point where it says it only goes up to 1 1/4" dies

yes you can build a strong cage out of that but mine out of 1.75" .120wall HREW will last longer and be stronger. Sorry maybe I just think bumpers and cages should be built to last

Not trying to split hairs here but that statement isn't quite accurate.
I'll put 1-1/4"x.095 4340 DOM up against HREW 1.75"x .120 C1018 any day.
The manufacturing specifications are different as is the method of manufacture. They're much tighter on the DOM (Drawn Over Mandrel). The HREW (Hot Rolled Electric Weld) is a baseline product whereas the DOM is just a notch below seamless. Not to mention most racing ROPS are gonna be using a 4130/4140 or 4340 DOM. Not really comparable products in price or performance.

Again, not flaming, just stating facts from 25+ years in the biz. In the end, to each their own.
