I have just a basic Lincoln welding helmet(not the AD) and recently replaced the lense with one of those gold coated lenses that are suppose to be real good. Anyways I used it for the first time yesterday and it is awful in that it makes me see double weld pools. Other than that I like it better than the original lense. Is this normal or could I have it in backwards, upside down, inside out?
![]() With that said, I want a good AD helmet from Santa. http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=91214 Anybody have experience with the Speedglas 9002x? |

I have an el-cheap-o from Harbor Freight for home use as I really dont weld that often and it works great. I use a nice speedglass at work and I can really tell the difference. If I welded more at home I might consider the up-grade but for now the cheap one suits me fine. I would recomend the Harbor Frieght version for anyone starting out.

I have one of those cheap A/D helmets, there was some guy on ebay that only sold those so I kept putting in bids till I got on for around $27 shipped. Anyway, they're a jam up little helmet, works great, just like the harbor freight one. They just have kinda a small lens veiw (they're the same veiwing size as a non A/D cheap helmet) but well worth having. Beats the sh*t out of a non A/D anyday. I've used mine alot and have had no problems with it. Make sure it has a cover lens to protect the unit, I had someone ruin one where I use to work cause he used it with no cover lens.

extreme,
i agree with clayboy and ruredy. the el cheapo a/d is fine for home work.i am a welder by trade and use the speedglass at home but that is only because i upgraded at work to a millera/d hood.those two hoods alone are 300 plus ...so unless you are doing boku welding at home, just go with the cheaper model, it will serve you just as well. mike |

also, as ruredy says make sure you use a cover plate inside and out as the spatter from welding and grinding will ruin your investment.
