Building a Rotisery
I started with two 750 pound capicity engine stands from Harbor Freight. They were on sale for $39 each. They had the 1000 pounds stands there for just a few dollars more but I didn't think I would be having a frame or body that weighed more than 1500 pounds so I saved a few bucks. I also wanted a little more clearence between the body and the front leg and I wanted to get rid of the 5 degree lean back, so I came up 6 inches and cut the upright off. Raised it 12 inches and now I can rotate a body or frame that is over 5 feet wide and not hit anything. I used an angle finder to see what the front leg degree was, it was at zero. When I welded in the 12 inch extention, which is really 18 inch long for 3 inch overlap at top and bottom, I put the angle finder on top of the round tube, where the head goes, and made sure it was at zero degrees as well. Make sure to remove all the paint and powder coating before you weld, and for the record...Yes I did. Now when I get the other one made to match this one, I will take it to the next step.
One pic is of the two stand boxes, one stand still sealed in the box. One pic shows where I cut the upright. And the other two are of the extention welded in. It looks a lot higher than it really is. |

Re: Building a Rotisery
I am not real sure about the ones from HF but I know that my engine stand has the same lean back to it, until the engine is mounted. then it's level. I hope for your sake that then you load up a cart on this you don't have a binding issue. I know a guy at a body shop that used this same idea for a car and left the lean back and when he bolted up the car it was level as well. I am not trying to be a jerk about it. I have seen your work and it's great. I was just voicing a concern.
Keep us posted on the progress. |

Re: Building a Rotisery
Thanks BB. This is the same way we built our rotiserys when I was doing street rods and had no issue. There are three braces that I will be putting in that aren't in the pics yet. Just hold on and I will get to it.
Not the whole cart goes on it anyway. Only the frame or the main body section. I can lift the entire frame by my self and I probably could lift the body by myself if I could get my arms around it. I am looking at maybe 200 pounds max. But the lean back will no be a concern once the bracing is on. I am not putting in as much time on this as I did in the beginning of the roadster. But I want to be sure to get a lot of pics for those who want to try to make one for their use. |

Re: Building a Rotisery
I expected this from Crash not Scotyb! If there are going to be any chickens on this rotisery, I sure ain't going to be the one to bucher it! Heck I ain't too sure I would want to be the one to kill it. I am not sure my 7mm Mag would faze it.

Re: Building a Rotisery
Yes I will. It will be at the bottom of the stands and it will be adjustable to accomodate different lenght frames/bodies. Going to make a clamping device to weld to the front leg (which will be the inwards facing legs upon assembly). Pictures coming when I can get back on it. Tomorrow I hope!

Re: Building a Rotisery
Will you have drip pans on it? I would hate to get basting sauce all over that clean garage floor.Still can't figure out why you would want to cook a golf cart frame though.

Re: Building a Rotisery
You should see the oven that will be cooking the frame! I don't even want to see the electrice bill for it. Gloss Black powder coating. The man is going to work it in when he is doing "other" jobs and the price is right on this. FREE!!!
