Some fresh ideas...
So I've been taking from this site for a while and decided to give back a little. After being in the hobby for a few months, I have some ideas that at least I think are creative for modifying golf carts. Feel free to post yours.
There is a free app in iTunes called "XLR8". It uses your iPad, iPhone, or iPod's motion detection to sense whether you are accelerating or decelerating, and it generates a mean sounding V8 sound that matches the speed of your cart. Great for us electric guys. Plug it into a cheap old EQ/amp from eBay and some speakers under your cart (or like I plan to connect them to side pipes) and sound like you have the baddest cart around. I played a bit with this in my car, and it really only works well when you have it mounted horizontally or vertically and very securely. You can purchase the sounds of other cars, and it even squeals the tires in hard turns. For on board chargers, use an old vacuum cleaner cord retractor mechanism to be able to pull the plug out and reach a nearby outlet. I am mounting mine to the inside of the rear seat and will use a hose roller and collar to keep it handy. It will be covered up with an outdoor 120 volt hinged outlet cover to keep it out of site. Old bed frame rails make great angle iron for welding into golf cart frames. you can sometime find them for free on Craigslist. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Oh, IKEA also has an LED light kit made for homes but runs on a 12v adapter. It has a million different light color combinations and even a remote control. Great way to add lighting to your cart on the cheap and change the color to match your mood. It runs about 30 bucks for white and 50 for the multicolor and wired remote. A lot of car guys have been using these for interior lights lately.

Also, what about using office chairs for seats? You can get them used, cheap, in leather and many other materials, they're comfortable and they have bungs on the bottom to accept bolts.

Scotty- did you check out XLR8? I'm having a blast with it. Drove my 2007 escalade with the windows down and the app cranked. Sounded like I had a behemoth under the hood. Lol.

You can use the steel from old refrigerator doors (top/bottom). It has a cool texture, reasonably heavy gauge, and would look good as floorboards when painted/ powder coated/bedlined.

How about using heavy duty jumper cables as power wires? You can get 4 gauge 20 foot jumper cables for $40, in a variety of colors, and you get two 20 foot lengths for a total of 40 feet. Should be more than enough to wire most carts.

The strand count in high quality welding cable is over 400 for 4g and 600 in 2g... battery jumper cable is designed for 12v 30 amps not 36v 400 amps. |

Awesome, thanks! I appreciate the note- sometimes these things seem too good to be true, and I keep seeing jumper cables rated for 500 amps.
