3/16" x 10' Mechanical Shear
I'm in the market for a shear and came across a good deal on this old industrial 3/16" x 10' Niagara mechanical shear. I was hoping someone might have information on this machine and also what I should look for when purchasing.
I havent been able to find much in researching this shear, Niagara NO 7120. Its supposed to be in good working condition. Its located 900 miles away and weighs 16,000lbs. I'm fairly certain its the machine I need and have made an offer. I will be arranging transport with a heavy equipment shipper if they accept. I've been looking primarily at 6ft shears, but the extra capacity would be very helpful in that there are times I need to cut along 10' lengths and thicknesses up to 3/16". |

Nice find!!Wish I could get my hands on one.Niagara is a very good name, they were built an hour away from here. The shop I worked at had a 12' 3/4" computerized hydraulic-shear.You could set the back-stop at any fraction of an inch and be dead-on.He still has the Cincinatti 200-ton mechanical press-brake,What a monster that thing is.I'll bet the shipping is gonna hurt!

Good machine but I have to ask 3 phase or single ? A lot of people over look this when buying and to convert is MONEY also. Just a thought Love to have it good luck. Iron worker would be nice also

Re: 3/16" x 10' Mechanical Shear
Not just the fact of 3-phase,but the amp-draw required for startup. The Brake I use draws 400amps on 220v 3-phase.He has it hooked thru an electronic-transmission,it slowly spins it up so that it draws less amps. Its' pretty cool to see,you actually hear it shift up.Rotary Phase-Convertors can get pricey,I do have plans for building one just like the big$ units.
