I got one! If you have an old desk, or see where someone wants to get rid of one, jump on it! You can always use another workbench!

CTDs idea above about the hanging shoe rack can also be used to store spray cans of paint!

A lot of these hints & tips are very old....but they still work.

There was a time when just about every magazine had a hints & tips page...as far as I was concerned they where always a must read.

Those pages seem to have pretty well disapeared......they probaly do sponsors out of business for their manufactured gadgets.

A couple of the best I remember.

From my older brothers Trail & Track magazine back in the 70's.
run bicycle tube over your chain that way you wont damage your paint or chrome when you lock up your motorbike, bicycle OR your golf cart.

another from Trail & Track
To make a chain that is hard to cut....start with a length of transport chain...then thread wire rope in and out of the links....get loops swaged to match the ends....the rope will stop bolt cutters and hack saw from working well and the chain will stop wire cutters from working too.

use the discarded ends of tippy ties for mixing epoxy.

to reduce the problem of the rim of your paint tin filling up with paint....punch holes thru the bottom on the channel......the lid will still fit and seal, but excess paint in the rim will drain back into the tin.

Used chain saw files can be reprocessed into may usefull things on the grinder....scribes, picks, awls, marking knives, scrapers....great steel that holds an edge and they are already knurled for a good grip.

Keep a range of good chain saw files on hand...they are fine, paralell and excelent for enlarging & elongating holes or making accurate groves.

When you are shifting sheet goods, timber board or sheet metal.......take your router mat or some of that sticky rubber grip sheet, and give yourself a miricle grip arm pit.

Arround the workshop.....put some sort of lubricant ( oil, grease or antiseeze) on every single nut bolt and screw you touch.....they will tighten more consistently and most of all they will come appart when you want them too.
On a boat trailer it can be the difference between doing your maintenance with a spanner or an angle grinder.

There are thousands of em......once in a while a see a new one.

cheers

On pivot-points or hardware that get soaked in water a lot,use Caliper-Lube instead of Never-Seize.It lubricates excellent and resists washout a lot better too.

If you have a gasketed cover that will get opened often, put a light coat of grease on one flange,so the gasket will only stick to the dry-flange.

Need to cap off a line while working on something,Golf Tees' work great on lines under 1/4" diameter, short bolts(usually 1" long) work for anything 1/4"or larger.
On Cart front wheel-bearings,and steering-linkage,use Marine Wheel-Bearing grease. Then if the hub-caps leak, the grease will protect the bearings from water-damage,and steering-joints will be more resistant to corrosion.
