Default How to buy batteries?

I need to buy new batteries soon, for the cart my father in law gave us.
Is there anything in particular I should be asking for or doing to make sure I get fresh batteries and a balanced set?

Do you just ask the dealer for "six 8volt batteries please"?

I'm not really looking to do anything overly custom or upgraded with the cart,..... well not just yet anyway. Plan is to just keep it more or less stock, but I want to make sure I maximize my purchase and to not do anything too stupid with this major purchase.

What brand of batteries are in the cart now? Were you happy with them? In golf cart batteries it's all about amp-hours. The higher the number, the longer the range and power, and the higher the cost.

yes ... you need to do your homework
make sure dealer has a good reputation
he should have a set with the same date codes on them
get Trojan ,Crown or Powertron (imho)

the cart has US batteries in it now. I have no opinion of them. Just got the cart. He had let his neighbor use the cart for the last couple years, and when I checked several of the cells' water was belo the plates. When topping off and charging I noticed that several of the cells are cloudy or muddy looking, I'm guessing from corrosion.
Seems to have several bad cells.

My cheapest local source so far is an EZgo dealer. Looks like an ok operation. He sells Brute Force.... appearently a trojan low end line????

I recently had a communication with a local battery dealer who told me that Trojan has a new line of batteries. They have black boxes with no markings or labels and the retailer can "brand" them with any label they want. The batteries have lower amp/hour ratings than T-105's and he sells them for $70 each.

near Jacksonville, FL.... I guess I should put that in my signature line......

Maybe they have lower AH ratings and thats why they are cheaper? Guess I need to look at the specs a bit closer...... Although for my needs I don't need any more than "normal" factory stock stuff.....

ok, I called the guy back.
Verified that these 8 volt batteries are "108 minute" batteries. I'm still trying to wrap my head around how that converts to AH

I'm not at home right now, but I'm thinking my fading US Batteries are 170minute batteries.

Is 108 minute enough? I know the answer "depends"....... so I guess the reall question is what would an expected range be with these? My cart is stock.......

Also, I mentioned I couldn't find out much about these "Brute Force" batteries on line. He said you have to search Powertron. When I did that it looks like it might be associated with Interstate Batteries. He said that when the shipments come in they are on Trojan pallets.

Thoughts? Opinions?
