Re: 1987 club Car
I'm not at home to check for sure, but yes, on the coil, the red wire is the pulse, and I believe there is a black wire w/ a white stripe, that's your engine kill hookup (see wiring diagram to trace that wire), and I believe the last remaining wire is white (?), I assume that would have to be the hot wire (although I don't see it ID'd anywhere in the diagram). I can check on my '87 when I get home.

Re: 1987 club Car
Thanks a million
It has a plug that is triangle shaped and it has a white wire and a brown wire side by side and then a red wire at the bottom of the triangle and that is the one that I get the pulse from. and then there is a single plugged wire that is black and white striped.I want to be sure the coil is bad ( now getting no spark) before replacing it Thanks again for your help |

Re: 1987 club Car
Coil testing on these older carts can be finicky and unreliable from what I've read. You can make sure there's power to it, but that's about it. I think process of elimination is probably the best route. Have you found a coil for your cart yet? Coils for the 1984-1989 carts are pretty hard to come by.

Re: 1987 club Car
I got a hold of a Manual today and in is it tells you how to check it with your multimeter so I did. it was supposed to register 325 to 355 in oms and it showed nothing so I found that Buggies unlimited carries them and i need to get a carb from them as well(I have no other choice) Club car no longer carries them. This book has every thing you would need to know on this cart, its gold! if you need anything looked up let me know

Re: 1987 club Car
Last time I checked, BU only had coils for the 1990-91 gas Club Cars with the KF82 flathead motor. I'm still not sure what the difference is though. Something to do with the rev limiter. Been trying to nail this down for a few years but nobody seems to know for sure. Please let us know if the 1990-91 coil works in your 1987 cart. Club Car put the same motor in their gas carts from 1984-1991.

Re: 1987 club Car
There part number is 11095 and the photo is the same as the one I pulled out.
It lists for a 1984 thru 1989 CLUB CAR so im going to take my chances. |

Re: 1987 club Car
just curious did you unplug the single black wire to make sure one of the kill switches went bad? It should be next to the coil
