94 Gas Club Car Carryall 2 Driven Clutch slips
Just bought a new/used cart for the property. We have a pretty steep driveway. Upon bringing the cart home, we realized it won't make it up the hills. It just slips the belt on the Driven clutch. It has a green spring on it. The cart has 1987 hours on it and I was told a Kawasaki 350 motor. The motor runs good. The cart scoots on flat ground. What I would like to know is, Should I venture to replace the belt or belt and spring. Never worked on this type of cart before. I am almost tempted to take it to the local cart repair shop and let them deal with it as, I just don't have the time. The driven clutch belt, when the cart is sitting, is really really really loose. Almost as it it is over stretched. It seems as if the driven clutch were to compress around the belt any more, it would pop off. SO, not sure if the width of the belt is too skinny from years of use, if the belt is too stretched or if, the green spring is the wrong spring for my hills. I noticed a power kit upgrade for a new belt, power and driven, an orange torque spring and a clutch alignment tool. I got them to knock $500 bucks off the cart cause I couldn't get up the driveway so, I have a few bucks to spare. Can someone please shed some light on the subject? Like if I am thinking in the right direction? I couldn't be happier with the condition of the cart. It's pretty darn clean and un abused. Thanks for your time, and if there are any questions I can answer to help get the advice I am looking for, please, ask away!

The big belt should be very loose when sitting, loose enough to remove the belt by hand with no tools. That's normal. When the cart is running, the clutches move in and out to change the tension.
Is the cart lifted with big tires or is it stock suspension? |

It is not lifted. Stock tires and stock suspension.

Re: 94 Gas Club Car Carryall 2 Driven Clutch slips
Are there lubrication points and intervals for the clutches?

Re: 94 Gas Club Car Carryall 2 Driven Clutch slips
I'd say just replace the belt for now, It's a standard maintenance item!
*edit* both drive and driven clutches are designed to operate dry (no lubrication) |

Is the belt a semi standard auto parts store belt or is it an online or cart store only item? Thanks for the replies!

Probably want to get it from a cart parts supplier, I don't think that an auto parts store would carry it.

Now the clutch on the motor, if it is somewhat stuck in the closed position, how do I free it up?

What did you do?.... In all seriousness... if it was like that, it could be a few things... a worn thrust washer, a broken weight, a broken spring... etc. All of which you'll need to get a drive clutch puller, remove it from the engine, and take it apart! Note: It's actually pretty easy to take apart and repair them! (as long as it's not TOO worn out!) |

I got it this way when I bought it. Hey drives on the flat surface really well but when it comes to any sort of steep hill, It just slips.
