Default Cart just can't climb the driveway!!!

Well, at first I thought it was the clutch. Luckily I have 30 other CC at work to inspect and see if what I have is working right or not. Granted they are newer carts but, at least I have something to gauge visually as to if things operate the same. So, I bought the new belt, and did a full tune up. Drained tank, replaced fuel filters, air filter, plug, gaskets on carb, oil and filter change. So, then I placed it in maintenance mode and hit the throttle.....Hey, she can really rip!!!! Okay, things look good!!!! Pop the seat back on and take it for a test run....ON FLAT GROUND!!!! She is the same lazy dog she was before I did anything.. WTH?!!!! So today, I did 2 things, 1, bought a slightly used Vanguard 16hp with a Comet 780, and then 2, did a compression test on my FE350......Whopping 35-37psi..

One thing I noticed is that when being driven, the cart never reaches the same rpm limit that it does in maintenance mode. It just seems to have a hard time like it's really under a strain. You would think I was standing on the brakes and the gas.

So would it be safe to say that this much lack of compression is the culprit to my ZERO BALLS cart?

I had a strong feeling from the time I bought this cart it would be undercarriage wise, good to go... but mechanically.....they just fed me a line of BS! So, hence why I bought the Vanguard 18hp. That's a topic I will make another thread for as I am totally lost on doing an engine swap. Wiring harness, motor mounts, exhaust, throttle linkage........O MY! A tad overwhelming. But I gotta get it done, wife's getting a little agitated at not having a cart to get around on.

I'd say that low compression is a real good reason for the cart being gutless.

What year cart? 97 and up has a rear end that is a different rotation than that Vanguard. If it's newer than 97 you can run reverse as forward at the loss of speed, or find a pre-97 rear end to drop in.

You're good to go then. If you post in the Big Block section those guys can give you all the help you need on putting that Vanny in your cart.

Cool! your Carryall is a perfect candidate for a big block!

But, I'm curious... is your Carryall II a "key start"? or a "pedal start" cart?
Key start carts have a much lower compression (71 psi), as compared to pedal start carts (156 psi)

no matter which it is... that CCW FE350 is few and far between,
and may be worth something to someone that may want to rebuild it!

Thanks Lockman1, it is a pedal start. You know, I thought the compression was only supposed to be around 57psi. Whatever I read is way off!!! Is the rebuild a matter of a top end piston, ring and gasket replacement?

Is it backfiring when running? May also check the valves if they do not seat properly your compression will leak through them.

No it doesn't backfire at all. It actually runs smoothly. Just gutless.
