1987 Club Car, AG8947, no power, suspect crack in air intake
Good morning all!
I've got a 1989 Club Car that I just purchased from my brother-in-law that worked fine, sometimes would give me some problems after running extended periods. (Would start to sputter a bit with no power, then seem to straighten up after cooling down) Yesterday hit a few good bumps and now it seems to lack power. (can idle, can't really go more than that.) Looks like there may be a pretty good crack in the base of the air intake, right by the hose clamp (photo attached) Also, could this crack cause this issue? (does not look fresh) I can't seem to find this part on Golfcartsdirect or even the aircleaner page. Would anyone have access to the service manual so I could find a part number to check ebay? Thank you for any help you can give!!! |

No, a crack in that area should have little to no effect on the motor's power. And that airbox is hard to come by, but I did see a used one on eBay just the other day if you want one.

Understood, I'll move on to fuel filters and spark plug. The fuel line does look pretty aged... Thank you Springbok!

These carts don't come from the factory set up to "idle". When you say that it "idles", do you maybe mean that the starter/generator is turning over the motor but the motor just isn't firing up? Sometimes people think that the motor is running when in reality it's just the electrical power of the starter/generator spinning the motor.

Here's a link to that airbox if you were still interested, although as I said, it probably won't make a difference to the problems you're having.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/151625655112 You can probably super-glue or plastic-weld the crack in your old one too, as another option. One thing that may be affected by that crack would be cold starting, since the crack is downstream from your choke, and would undermine it by letting air in near the airbox while you're trying to choke air off with the choke button. So it would still be worth it to fix the crack one way or another. |
