Default 92 Club Car DS Gas Airbox/Choke Issue

First time poster, hopefully doing it correctly. I have a '92 4 stroke ClubCar DS that bogs down when climbing hills, especially once it is warmed up. I've tried re-tuning the carb, but no major improvement. Out of the blue it started running much better but I noticed when it was cold the choke didn't seem to work. Upon inspection I found that the airbox had come loose from the choke. When I reconnected it the problem came back so I took the airbox apart thinking it was plugged up and not allowing adequate air intake. Found nothing wrong. Choke mechanism was clear too. Internal vents/tubing of the airbox are odd, nothing to adjust and no blockage. For now I've reconnected the choke but left the internal baffles out. Not sure what they are supposed to do. I have double the power and speed I had before but occasionally get backfires at low RPM. Is it okay to run this way? Has anyone experienced this issue before and found a more proper solution? Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks.

Based on the manual, the choke shouldn't need adjusting. If you've taken it apart and found no blockage in the choke passages, is it likely your air filter needs changing and the engine can't pull enough air through the normal assembly passages and filter? If this isn't the case and your engine is only pulling air through the air filter, then I don't think it will be a problem running it as you have it.

Thanks for the quick reply Joe. The filter isn't new but I did blow it out with compressed air and it didn't seem that dirty compared to other air filters Ive had on other equipment. It was replaced less than a year ago. I may just try that anyway to rule it out. I appreciate the input.

i have had people wash paper filters once dried did not seem to flow the same and they looked new, put a new one in and it would run fine.
not saying you washed it , maybe it got wet at some point.
