HELP with paint issue!!
Hi all,
I'm getting a customers cart ready to paint and I'm having a strange issue. The cart had been left in the sun and some of the finish was damaged. I wet sanded the bad spots and it seems like there is some kind of clear coat on the surface. I was able to feather it out with some wet/dry 400 grit. I started shooting it with some tie-coat/bonding primer to give the paint a better grip on the plastic and everywhere there was an 'edge' between the top clear coat and the plastic underneath, the clear started to crinkle and melt. On the bare plastic, no problem, and on the areas where the clear was completely intact...no issues. I tried just shooting a top coat of paint and had the same problem. Only in the areas where the clear was feathered out. My personal cart never displayed any of these issues when I painted it. I'm kinda stumped. The facts: '95 CC DS Factory plastic body with color through the plastic. No signs of a repaint. It is the plastic body, not fiberglass. Anyone have similar problems? Any suggestions?? Didn't realize we had a body and paint section. I'll re-post there.
