1984 DS Gas only starts in service

Cart only cranks and starts with toggle switch in the service position, Does not crank in the normal position. I can start it in service, then switch to normal and will run ok. What does the service position actually do? Any ideas on where to start on no crank issue in the normal position? Thanks.

Here's the wiring diagram for your cart, sorry it's not color-coded though. 1984-1985 carts were the only two model years that used that toggle switch. I've never seen or worked on one before. You may have an issue in the neutral lockout switch as well. I'd try bypassing some wires to try and isolate the problem.

The service position is exactly what the name implies, it allows the person working on the cart to run the motor during maintenance/service without having to jack up the rear end or run alongside the cart.

It keeps the motor from running while cart is in the neutral gear.
