Those that use zip ties for speed, How long have you been running without problems?
I just bought my first gas golf cart, a 96 club car. I got what I think is a deal on it. It was The owners mother who died recently and he just wanted it gone. It had set for years under a shed and looks kinda rough. He wanted it running before selling it so he took it to a local repair shop.
They rebuilt the engine and starter, put in a new battery, solenoid, some wires, and cables. It was close to $800 and I have the receipt for warranty purposes. I even called the shop and asked about it. I gave the guy $1100 for it and he delivered it an hour away to my house. They have it set to run at a stock 12-13mph. Id only like a few more mph as long as it's safe long term. I'd like to try the zip tie method and leave all the safeties in place. In short- have you all safely used the zip tie method for speed, long term. As in years? With no negative effects? |

Ive only been running mine for two weeks or so so not sure how much more wear and tear is caused. I think as long as you don't disable the rpm limiter you are okay. I would still wait for the experts to chime in though.

You will have ti explain the zip ties for speed method. I searched and found only this thread.

I agree with not going over the factory rpm limit. I think it's around 3600.
Mine runs great after years of this. Should top out around 20 factory tires But one time I new a guy that disabled it and always ran his cart up high. Sounded like around 5k. Still runs today. |

There's a spring that you zip tie to make it tighter. It's at the back on top of the rear end. It's the cable coming from the peddle box.

your just bypassing the speed governor, you still have the rpm limiter. You just wont have the constant speed with the rpm limiter, it cuts out the ignition when you get up to the limit so it stalls them comes back. I zip tied mine years ago. My rpm limiter died about 6 months ago. You just have to make sure you don't over speed it.
I like ezgos better as far as that goes. the valves just start floating at rpm and that's all she has. Have you tried adjusting the cable first? You do have some speed adjustment with the cable, then you tie it if you want it out of the picture all together. |

I've run mine with the zip tie for about 3 years with no problems. I used a digital tach to make sure I didn't push it too far on the RPMs so I avoid bumping the rev limiter.
