Default club Car Ignition Coil

have 2 2007 club car precedent FE350 gasoline golf carts reacting to same way. Carts were running fine, coil went out replaced them, now carts will barely putter around, not enough to use, wont go but 2-4 mph. sounds like timing out? Coils have been set to spec. .012. Nothing special about carts factory setup. Done all usual stuff clean carb, new air filter, new fuel pump. have replaced a couple of other coils no problem.

Do you know the OEM part number on the coils you installed? There are new designs out now and if you used one of the new coils, it will do exactly as you described.

Course I've thrown away boxes in believing that I was doing something wrong. There were from dealer, NO WAY would I order after market on coils. I will try to figure out. I don't remember seeing a number stamped in the coil itself. How would it cause this?

A couple of things could cause this...

An old or carboned spark plug, (you didn't say you replaced it)
or a failing RPM limiter. disconnect the ground wire on the left, (pass side) mounting bolt and see if that helps!

Replaced spark plug and removed the RPM limiter one one and disconnected the ground wire on the other.

I'm not saying you're using aftermarket coils.... It could still be an OEM coil. It may also fit, and look the same as the ones your replacing, but it could still be the wrong one. In 2011 or so, Club Car went to a new design, incorporating the RPM limiter into the coil. New engines do not have RPM limiters, it's all built into the coil. These new coils look pretty much the same as the old ones, but when you put them on on older engine, they do exactly as you describe. That's why I asked you for the part number. I'd be willing to bet you got the new style coil on an old style engine. I installed one on an old style engine once just to see how it would behave and it acted exactly as you describe.

I'm not hard to please. Just cold Budweiser in a bottle. Nothing fancy. Glad you got it fixed.
