I have a 97 gas club car with a honda clone motor
I got my cart stuck on a log on friday and My neighbor came to help. He noticed how loose my drive belt is- if you squeeze the top section towards the bottom, you maybe get 3/4 of an inch space- that seems extremely loose- I have been looking and have not found how tight the belt should be. Do I loosen the motor and move it forward or get a shorter belt?
thanks Guys PS is there a grease that you prefer for the rear end? a friend recently got bit, by the Lucas chemical bug and he uses it for everything pss the cart has been perfect since you taught me how to get the cart into reverse- roll it down hill , letting off the gas and throw it into reverse- |

Hey csport!
Your 97 should have a unitized transaxle, and the belt tension can't be adjusted because the engine, engine pan, and transaxle are all bolted together. the belt should be a bit loose, if the "git-up and go" is starting to lack, I'd suggest getting a new drive belt. As for the transaxle lube, 80w-90 gear lube is suggested by Club Car, conventional, or synthetic is fine! I use Mobil 1 synthetic, Lucas is great stuff also! Unitized Transaxle.jpg |

Like Lockman said, no adjustment for the drive belt. The drive clutch closes onto the belt and puts tension on it automatically once the engine starts.
Jack up the rear wheels off the ground and hit the gas pedal and watch the belt as you rev it up and you'll see how the clutch system works. If the belt is old and has cracks in it, replace it. |

Thank You very much
I spoke with brother in law, and he said, there is a 5 gallon bucket of 90wt gear lube in the barn ( father in law was a life long mechanic) so I am set and I will check for the slots |
