Stock FE350 runs then shuts down
I have an 05 Club Car Carryall Turf II, (bone stock). It has picked up an issue where it will start, run and then shut down abruptly as if you pulled the plug wire. Checking the plug it is very rich and when it shuts down it back fires indicating to me that the spark stopped but the fuel kept coming and loaded the muffler. I don't understand the relationships of the micro switches and the rev limiter but something is shutting down the spark while running leaving it very rich and the smell of gas. I think the issue is electrical but before coming to that decision i did the following: New gas lines and filter. New vacuum line from crank case to the fuel pump. New carb. New plug gaped to 28. New air filter and cleaned the air intake tunnel. New battery.
Is there a particular micro switch or something in the control box or starter generator or key switch or rev limiter that can clamp the power down without warning like this that you have seen or experienced? |

Re: Stock FE350 runs then shuts down
It sounds more like a fuel flooding problem, than a spark problem....
Have you checked for spark when it quits? And have you checked your oil to see if it's overfilled with fuel, or smells like fuel? |

No fuel in oil and oil is at correct level.
Installed new spark plug and gaped to 28k When it shuts down its like the plug wire was pulled. No sputter, just dead. When it shuts down the plug is wet, its like the spark stopped or the kill circuit activated while running down the pasture. |

I think your flooding from miss adjusted carb too.
I think you would have to run for like a mile or a long time without firing to fill a muffler with fuel....aND in reality probably 10x farther than that! |

Unhook rev limiter ground. If it solves problem, then limiter is bad.

Re: Stock FE350 runs then shuts down
Problem found - connectors to forward/reverse micro switch were not tight. While traveling they would vibrate loose sending the same signal as if the shifter was placed in neutral and engine would shut down. Operator would rapidly pump gas peddle trying to get started which flooded the cylinder making one think it was a carb issue. Tightened connectors to micro switch and problem eliminated. Moral of the story - check and test all micro switches and connections first before chasing typical gasoline engine problems.

Re: Stock FE350 runs then shuts down
I was wrong. The cart still has the "shut down for no reason" issue. Here's what I have done -
Replaced - carb, fuel lines and filter, fuel pump, spark plug, air cleaner, blew out air tunnel. No gas in oil, oil level at middle mark. Replaced both micro switches in the control box, checked F/R micro switch and buzzer switch on the F/R component. When I pull the plug after shut down, I initially have no fire at the plug and the engine is flooded. After turning the engine over a few times I will start seeing plug fire. Replace plug and the engine runs (until it stops again), That could be 1 minute or three days. Here's the only symptom that seems to be repeating. When I leave my drive I go up a drive apron to the road where the cart shakes a little then I immediately turn left. The cart will shut down about 20 feet after I turn left. The cart has done this three times. Its a 2003 CarryAll Turf 2 with FE350 engine and is completely stock. I am lost! |

Have you taken off the ground to the rev limiter.
