Default How to check the solenoid operation

Been having lots of starting problems with no crank whatsoever on my 1993 DS gas. I think its the solenoid but how can I check it when removed?? It does turn the start when I jump the main posts....

Try applying 12v to the small terminals. Polarity is critical unless you disconnect all the small wires for test.
It this cranks the engine the solenoid is good and the problem is in the activation circuit

Dont want to sound stupid but gotta ask, my solenoid is out of the cart. Do I apply 12v to both the small posts or 12v on one and ground the other??? I should hear a click if its working. By the way when it was installed with all wires hooked up there was 13 volts on both the small posts and the battery large post.

Just cant get it to crank the starter, except throwing a screwdriver across both large posts. Other than that nothing seems to activate it.

solenoid test
Quote:
Disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. remove all wires and cables from solenoid
test 1
Connect an volt meter, set on continuity, place on the two large terminal studs. The meter should indicate no continuity, Replace the solenoid if continuity is present.
test 2
Using jumper wires attach from main positive and main negative of battery to the two small solenoid studs, polarity is not important. You should hear a click as the solenoid engages, and the meter should indicate continuity on the two large terminals. Replace the solenoid if continuity is not present.
if solenoid clicks rapidly solenoid is bad

You are trying to start it with the shifter in forward or reverse... right?
(Club Car engines won't turn over in neutral, unless it's in maintenance mode)

Just curious!

Yep checked out on the Maintenance/Operation modes. Wasnt getting the ground from the orange wire going to the solenoid at all because of faulty micro switch. We are good now, thanks for all the assistance..
