New rear shocks or leaf springs?
Hi all,
I have a 1986 club car DS non-lifted. Only use it for golfing thus no offroading. I think the ride sucks. I put on new front shocks but would now like to address the rear. This cart has the original rear shocks and leaf springs (i know b/c I got it from the original owner). 1. Do I just get new rear shocks and see if that helps? 2. Or would getting heavy duty leaf springs on the rear help? 3. If I got new heavy duty leaf springs would I even need rear shocks? I looked at the following ones on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Club-Car-DS-...xUXQXx&vxp=mtr What is your suggestions? Last edited by bbeethe; 07-12-2016 at 12:26 PM.. Reason: added a question |

Re: New rear shocks or leaf springs?
I wouldn't get heavy-duty springs in the back unless you haul two or more adults on the back on a regular basis (you said you only use it for golf so I imagine you're not). If you hate the ride now, it'll ride like a tank with the HD springs. I'd do the shocks first.

Re: New rear shocks or leaf springs?
My question would be: what are you trying to fix? If the rear end is sagging too low and bottoming out the suspension, the springs would be the issue. If the problem is that it' too bouncy, continuing to rebound after a bump or dip, that would be the shocks. Both items last a long time on a cart, but 30 years IS long time. Either could be worn out by now. While you're at it check the rubber bushings in the spring eyes, shackles and on the shocks. They could rattle and clank and cause rough sound & feel without the springs or shocks themselves necessarily being bad.

Re: New rear shocks or leaf springs?
Thanks for all of the replies. The cart doesn't sag down, it is just really rough riding. I ordered rear shocks and bushings. Hopefully it helps.

Re: New rear shocks or leaf springs?
Unfortunatly new shocks and bushings wont help. Make sure you have the single leaf rear springs
