Broken Driven Clutch Belt
What's happening everyone. I have an issue.
Over the winter I put an Allsports Long Travel Lift on with 23" tires. Afterwhich I noticed a serious reduction in torque so I sent my driven clutch off to CPP to have it milled down and the power spring installed. I got it back, installed it and everything ran great. Except one little issue. Once I got it back, it had a tendency to have a whine or squeal to it when moving. Now fast forward a few months. Everything had been going on like above until 2 days ago. My daughter was driving around the cart and poof. Belt just exploded into pieces. Has anyone else ran into this issue? and if so... what did you do to remedy it beside just buy a new belt? Thanks OSG |

Re: Broken Driven Clutch Belt
Wow... did you replace the belt when you had the driven clutch machined?

Re: Broken Driven Clutch Belt
It sounds to me like you have a belt misalignment somewhere, or a clutch malfunction. Your clutches are designed to open/close while maintaining the centerline of the belt. If one clutch is operating normally and the other isn't, your belt gets skewed/angled between the two clutches and will begin tearing up the edge of your belt until it eventually destroys it. Someone here had this issue recently and their driven clutch was stuck closed.
You need to put your cart in maintenance mode and rev the motor, your belt should rise up in the drive clutch, and sink down into the driven clutch as the rpms increase. If your belt just disintegrated like that, I would think you should be able to see what's happening. |

lift the seat, and you'll see a yellow knob and 2 micro switches on the back of the shifter assembly, pull the spring loaded yellow knob away from the microswitches (towards the rear of the cart) give it about a half turn, and gently slide it back in under the microswitches. You should now be in maintenance mode... key on, press the Go pedal, and the engine will run in neutral! reverse the procedure to put it back into run mode. |

So I replaced the belt. Kicked it in maintenance mode and rev'd it. The video below is the result.
Should the driven clutch spread apart more when rev'd? https://vimeo.com/176764194 |

Re: Broken Driven Clutch Belt
I concur with Don! Something in your driven clutch is froze up. That's why your belt got toasted. That inner sheave should be opening up, allowing the belt to sink down into the clutch (like in Don's video above).
Here's a diagram of your driven clutch. |
