Cub car ds white smoke at takeoff and very low rpm
I appreciate any help with this. I have a gas 95 club car ds that I've been working on since February. It runs strong but at takeoff or if I give it gas right as it is about to shut off I get a big puff of white smoke. Engine has been rebuilt, running marine grade fuel, new carb, new fuel pump, running 5w30 oil. New exhaust. Once it gets going no smoke, until I stop again. Any ideas how to fix this?

Re: Cub car ds white smoke at takeoff and very low rpm
I've not worked on the newer OHV engines in these carts, but it sounds like oil must be leaking down into your combustion chamber from the valvetrain. Once you get it running, enough the oil can't collect in the chamber at any one time to make smoke; but when you stop, the oil puddles in there until you hit the gas again.
Do you have to keep filling the oil to keep the level up? |

I keep an eye on the oil level and it hasn't dropped, but honestly we don't drive other over a few miles at a time.

Try regular 87 octane fuel...
for a while I was using premium (no ethenol 91 octane) and ran into similar problems, I've been using 87 octane for 2 years now with no problems! |

That's interesting. I'll give that a shot, easier than replacing the engine.

Re: Cub car ds white smoke at takeoff and very low rpm
Any chance there is oil or other gunk being sent to combustion chamber through the crankcase vent tube? Would it harm anything to disconnect it from carb/intake and run a short distance to see if that helps the smoking?

It won't hurt anything to give it a try!
You might want to cap off the port on the carb though, it may not run well with that port open! |

Re: Cub car ds white smoke at takeoff and very low rpm
So I ran all the marine gas out and tried 87 octane, no change. I also disconnected the hose from the cylinder head to and manifold and that made no difference either. Could it be as simple as a carb or throttle adjustment?

springbok might be onto something were the valve seals replaced when motor was rebuilt if they are original is probably leaking past them

Your oil wouldn't happen to be "slightly" overfilled, would it?
