Motor needed for 1990 club car
My buddy broke a rod on his 1990 club car. I'm pretty sure the rod broke the block. He bought a new cart and is going to trash the old one which is immaculate. I don't even know what motor is in it? Any suggestions on finding a motor? I can have myself a beautiful cart if I can find a motor.

Motor needed for 1990 club car
I have the opportunity to acquire a 1990 club car with a junk engine (broken rod and block). The cart itself is immaculate. What motor is in it and where can I find a replacement?

Re: Motor needed for 1990 club car
A 1990 Club Car and a 1996 Club Car have different engines. The 1990 will have a KF82 flathead, and the 1996 will have an FE290 OHV engine. But I heard it's not terribly difficult to put an FE290 in an older (1984-1991) cart. But the FE290 must be a 1992-1996 model in order to work properly. In 1997 Club Car flipped the engine rotation from counter-clockwise to clockwise.

Re: Motor needed for 1990 club car
I know the motors are different, it's actually easier to do the clone conversion in the 88-91 carts. I wouldn't mess with the old flat head. I dumped money into mine that I should have just spent on the swap and pocketed the rest...

Re: Motor needed for 1990 club car
My flat head threw a rod and put a hole in the block in same spot springbok mentioned. It had a new rod and the hole was repaired with JB weld already when I took ownership of the cart. If I could go back I wouldn't have even messed with it and went str8 for the clone.

Re: Motor needed for 1990 club car
I have a FE 290 laying in my garage from my '92 it ran good when it came out for my big block swap it has a bad oil leak at the crank seal and the side cover all OE as far as i could tell no starter / generator with it i do have the OEM air box assembly and front clutch.
Everything in the picture below is with it other than the plate to the far left it was junk i tossed it. |

How much do you want for the motor?
