Rear end issue cc precident HELP!!
Hi guys
I have had a issue with my mom's precident cart that decided to show up today(thankfully we wasn't out on it anywhere) What it was we had just been out on a cruise to the local lake(something we like to do when it's good weather and not really hot) Well after we got back home today(I was on a different cart from my folks) I went with my dad to check out our property and was getting ready to put the cart back in the garage when I heard a grinding noise(wasn't loud but noticeable) so I pulled it in our driveway to see what was up, I put the cart in service mode and my dad watched in the back at the service access(I ended up taking the seat off to see what was up myself also) We both could hear the grinding noise somewhat with the cart in service mode (sounds odd I know but it's true) so we lubed the driven clutch(no change) but it wouldn't got full out when the engine was at higher rpms. So we drive it up and down the driveway some(I now think it was a bad idea) as the grinding noise got worse so we parked it to let it sit for a bit to let it cool some(didn't help) So we decide to put it in the garage till we could get time(more likely me) to check it out. I noticed the grind noise got worse as I was driving it back to the garage we park it in only to have it stop all together just as I got the front wheels in the garage (engine runs but the rear seems locked on the driven clutch) It now has no forward or reverse and the driven clutch won't turn even when the cart is in service mode. Please tell me I don't have to tear the rear end apart(or replace it) on this cart(I don't know if I can do it or not) |

Sounds like there's some serious issues. Pull the drain plug and see what comes out. When was the last time the oil was changed in the transaxle? It should be changed once a year and checked often during your riding season.

I second changing the fluid and seeing if you get some glitter out of there. That would be bad news. When you say it has no forward or reverse, do you mean youre stuck in neutral and cant shift it into fwd or reverse or when the cart is running fwd and reverse wont move the cart?

I think its too late to check or change the oil. Pull it out and open it, see whats really going on. Sorry

Re: Rear end issue cc precident HELP!!
I am thinking dav1774 is correct.
It was making a grinding noise then it wouldn't move either way in gear nor will the driven clutch move when I had it in service mode. I am pretty sure it's not the shift cable as it worked fine before and was still working up till it locked up on the input side. The fluid has never been changed as far as I know(was going to check it and change it before fall as it's out peak riding time.) What got me was it happened so sudden. I seen a rear end for club car for sell on here but this is a 97+ cart so it won't help. I am going to try and get it into the garage to tear into it and see what's up but I wonder if the gears(like the ones you change to get more top end) is bad |

I don't think its a gear, more like a bearing, but could be a gear.

I don't think it's a bearing but could be wrong.
Won't know till I can pull it from the cart and tear into it. Going to check the fluid for any metal and if it's clean with no shavings I will see into getting a replacement bearing for the input shaft(if that is what's bad) |

Re: Rear end issue cc precident HELP!!
Ball bearings and roller bearings metallurgy is suffering due to substandard low dollar bearings. I have bought what I believed to be quality american made Timken bearings only to find that when I removed the bearing from the box,It was repackaged and contained a chinese bearing. The majority of the transaxles I have repaired failed due to inadequate lubrication and then bearing failure.
