Carryall 6 shudders when taking off from a stop

I've got a 2007 Carryall 6 with the FE 350 gas that shudders and jerks when taking off from a stop. I checked the u-bolts on the axle, and there good and tight with no play. Also , I checked the rpms and it revs too 3400 rpms but doesn't get up to speed all that fast like my 97 Carryall 2 does, which has the same engine. Could it be that the drive clutch needs an overhaul?

Yes, check that the drive clutch releases all the way when at rest. Cub Cars have a idle bearing on the center of that drive clutch. It should be able to turn the engine with the starter without turning the belt. Till the engine catches and picks up speed the belt should just barely clear the plates of the clutch. If the belt is caught tight between those plates when "at rest" the clutch is sticking and needs attention.
