Whodeymckee , Did the seller tell you these two carts where 2012 models ? they stopped making DS models I believe in 2003-04. regardless the DS is a great cart as well as the FE290. Looks like you have a great plan for the builds. Good Luck........

Hey Whodey. Nice find/purchase. These carts are great. How much for the one you might sell? If you keep it does the course have others? Thanks!

Code on them are

AG1220
From what I understand (and may be completely wrong)
This means
Ag= ds gas
12= 2012
20= 20th week

Let me know if I am wrong thanks

Your cipher of the serial number is correct!
(Club Car stopped producing DS's around 2013-14)

And to answer your question from the intro section...
The Kawasaki FE290 9.5 hp engine is a good reliable engine!
Club Car has been using them in DS's since 1992! (20+ years)
The FE350 is an 11.5 hp engine... so it's just a little stronger than the 290.

You've got a good start with your upgrades!
But, be aware... you may get bitten by the golf car modifying bug, so it may not end there!

Thanks for the correction Lockman I did not realize they made the DS models up to 13-14 model year. I have a 2001 DS FE290 I've had for ever and just bought a 2015 Precedent with the new EFI motor and starting a build. Gonna try and start a build thread with pics.
