Default Keyswitch wires

Hello everyone,
Installed headlights today on my 2009 DS gasser.
I broke off the ear for the ignition wire on the keyswitch when removing the dash panel.
I picked up a temporary switch. Cart works fine without the white and white w/ black wires hooked up because I only could get a 3 pole switch.
It appears those wires get grounded through the keyswitch when key is off and go open when key is turned to run.
I will pick up the correct switch tomorrow but was just wondering how that works.

Thanks Crash Test,
Makes sense now why the cart still ran with wires not connected.

The #1 terminal. The blue and yellow wires are connected to it.
