Default Coil or Igniter?

Hi there, new to the forum and have a question.

I bought a 1994 Club Car from a golf course and it ran great all last year until the last time we golfed for the season, then it started stalling and sometimes would not start back up for a while, but it would always start, eventually.

This year I went and grabbed it from the cart shed and brought it to the house and did some work to it. Changed oil and filter, changed air filter, fuel filter, fuel pump and hoses, removed and cleaned the carb, finding some residue in the bowl.

I fired it up and drove it up and down the alley for a few hours with no problems, put it back in the garage for the night and the next day I went to load it up and it made it about 30 feet before it dies.

I got it running and the next time it died I pulled the plug wire and plugged in another plug and no spark. Then it started sparking and it ran just fine.

What should I change out, the coil or the igniter?

Unhook the ground wire on the rev limiter.

I have already done that, (forgot to add that in previous post).

I'm pretty sure that I got the right one anyway.

Front of the engine, only ground wire there???

Check the coil with an ohm meter to see if its any good. You can test the coil but not the cdi unit.

Will that help if it is actually working at the time?

What readings am I looking for?

Brown wire that bolts to the bracket right next to the limiter. Down low on the front.
It's not the big strap that's bolted on by the oil fill. That's the main ground for the engine and that needs to stay connected.

Next thing would be to bypass the lower limit switch on the throttle cam in the electrical box. Those fail more often than the coil.

I gather that's been your personal experience, but I have never seen that switch fail stuck closed - which is what it would need to do to cut off the ignition. Regardless, that and some other possibilities can be eliminated by unplugging the white with black stripe ground circuit wire that runs along the passenger side of the motor. There is a bullet connector right near the oil fill tube. With that disconnected it eliminates that switch, the ignition key switch & their wiring from the equation. Run the engine a while an see if it cuts off again.

I braved the cold and went out and snapped this picture, did I disconnect the correct wire?
