Default timing advance key ?

I received my timing advance key and i'm not sure if i instaled it correctly. the picture on the directions were very fuzzy and i couldn't make it out. Looking at the engine from the drivers side is the raised section of the key suppose to go on the left making the flywheel turn a bit more to the counterclockwise position? This is how i have it installed which i got from the directions saying to rotate the flywheel counterclockwise onto the key. Will this rob any of my topend, It seems as though i lost a couple of mph. I use to top out at 26.7 now between the drive clutch spring and the key i top out at 23mph. I know io probably lost a little from the spring i did test drive before i installed the key.

no i actually went counterclockwise looking at it from the flywheel side. It moved the flywheel counterclockwise the distance missing in the key.

Then the key should offset to the right if on top. you want the timing advanced.

Thanks that does make a lot of sense since its a timing advanced key the directions may have been printed for a ccw rotating engine. well that was a pain to do in the cart for no good. I thought it seemed worse when i was done. anyway thanks very much i'm always looking to better my cart. The wife will never give in to a big block so i have to make improvements one little part at a time. All i have left is the rear spring and maybe an oil cooler some day. My family and I have loads of fun on it we live on the edge fo the highland rim in tn and a mile from the house is about 175 acres of great trails. some of them were very challenging at first but with the improvements i've made a lot more are possible. thanks again

The motor you have is a ccw motor as are 99% of all motors. Motor rotation is veiwed from crankshaft (PTO) side. This means the flywheel rotates clockwise when veiwed from flywheel side. That would mean the tall side of the key should should be on the right side. The flywheel should be rotated clockwise before tightening nut. Sorry to tell ya but yours is installed backwards. That would retard your motor 4 degrees from stock or 8 degrees from the advanced position where it should be.
