Default Solenoid testing

Just because a solenoid is starting the cart, that doesn't mean it's charging, right? How can you test the solenoid for both duties?

On a stock system the solenoid needs to be energized in order for the S/G to send current back to the battery for charging.

I am assuming that you still have your push button set up installed on the cart. Hook up a voltmeter to the battery and use your push button to start the cart and then drive around. The voltmeter will probably show somewhere around 12 V and not change regardless of the RPM of the engine.

Now push the button in and hold it in. As you drive around you should see the voltage at the battery change and if it's charging it could be somewhere around 15 V.

So, I should change the push button to a toggle? Then switch the key on, flip the toggle to ON and it starts the cart up. When I'm ready to shut it off, turn the key off and flip the toggle to OFF?

Is it really that simple?

If you get your CC running you can disconnect the solenoid and it will stay running.

The solenoids are continuous duty for charging purposes.
