95 DS Lifted 6"-Now roof too high-what to do
I put a 6" spindle lift and 22" tires on my 95 DS. The roof will be too high to get it in and out of the garage. Its obvious i gotta cut the aluminum mounts shorter, but how do i bend the square tube at the top to bolt it back to the roof?

THat is done with a very expensive square tubing bender....May be earier to have a fabricator cut a few inches out of the straight part and reweld.

Someone mentioned a sleeve of some sort on another post, but didn't really elaborate as to what it was or where to get one.

If you have to cut and reweld, have a 4" to 6" piece of square stock press fit into the joint to help with stresses. If not, you will probably have it crack beside the original weld several times.

Re: 95 DS Lifted 6"-Now roof too high-what to do
Garage... or shed???
I have a canopy (roof) on mine, and with 7" of lift, with 25" tires, and it goes in, and out of my garage with no problems! (I custom built my shed doors at 7', for a lifted cart for future situations that I may have!) Tip: A buddy of mine had the same problem... he cut his supports just above the bends at the body, cut them 4" shorter, and bolted a 3/4 X 3/4 solid aluminum sleeve, so he can remove the canopy to get his cart in his shed! It works for him... but it rattles quite a bit! and, for those that are curious whats under my drivers side taillight... |

If i put the roof on right now,it will not drive out of my garage, let alone go into a shed.

We need to invent a square tube with pop out buttons that would work like tent posts and we could all retire.

I'll have to measure it,but i have the 6" lift,22" tires on it now. I put the front roof mount piece on and the top of the aluminum almost hits my garage door opener rail. I dont understand it either. I dont remember it being real tall without the lift.
