Default '98 gas CC - no start - "fluttering" solenoid

Hi all - first post, please be gentle. I have a '98 gas CC. The other day, all was normal. I backed up to my little yard trailer, and hooped off to hook it up. Got back in the cart, mashed the gas, and noting, except a quiet "fluttering" sound.

Disclaimer, I suck at electrical 'stuff' when it comes to ignition-type troubleshooting.

I'm lifted and I have had the ground wire from the starter to body/chassis break/come loose a couple of times, so I verified that ground was intact. The fluttering noise I found was actually being made by the solenoid (inside the black box). I don't know what that sound indicates, if anything. I kept poking around, trying to get it to start, and eventually it stopped the fluttering noise.

I bought a new solenoid, which did the same thing.

Next, I had my 6yr-old battery tested. It tested bad, so I replaced it. I thought I had it licked. New battery - no change. Fluttering solenoid. After some more poking and attempting to start, this solenoid stopped making that noise as well.

I can tell you that I have 12v at the battery-side big terminal of the solenoid(of course), and with the key on, I have 12v at both small terminals. At no point do I get 12v at the starter-side big terminal. That's about as far as I know how to test things.

I'm about to take the cart somewhere to have it fixed. As I said in my disclaimer, I suck at this stuff. I installed the lift myself, but t'shooting electrical is for the birds - lol.

Given the symptoms I've described above, can anyone give me an idea of what could be going on with my cart? What else I might try before taking it somewhere?

TIA,

Wade
