Default Gas tank for 91 ds vs 92+ gas tank

What is the difference between the 92+ gas tanks and the tanks for 88-91? I see a lot for 92+ carts but not many for 88-91. Is it the physical size of the venting I know the caps were different because of the venting. Is the physical size / dimensions the same? Wondering if I can put a 92+ tank in my 91ds. Is the frame rail different?

We have a 1987 DS and a 2005 DS, I should have them together this week and I'll see if there are any visual differences. My guess is that they would be the same.

There are physical differences, but you may make one work with effort

I know they look different and the pickups are different and the ventings is little different. Just wanting to know if the newer tank itself will fit in the same location on my 91 cart...

Judging from the drawings, I would say no.

That PDF labeled "91 DS Fuel Tank" isn't accurate. That tank in the PDF was used in the 1984-1987 carts (the applicable serial numbers are shown at the bottom). See my next post below.

So I've been doing a little research this morning and I made this infographic based on the detailed info on golfcartpartsdirect.com (I put all the gas tank drawings in one single image so they could be compared easily). Judging from this, it appears that Club Car used the new (1992+ style) gas tank during the last run of KF82 golf carts in 1991. So I would have to guess that a 1992+ tank should fit just fine in a 1984-1991 cart.

Also, there was a gap in the golfcartpartsdirect.com coverage of fuel systems. I couldn't find any confirmation of what gas tank was used in the 1988 carts. There are a few 1988 carts in our campground, I'll have to do some digging to see what kind of tanks they have. Can any of you guys with 1988 Gas DS Club Cars chime in and tell us which of these tanks is in your cart (if any)?

They show several tanks in the 91 parts list, why I don't know.

That document you've shared, although it's dated October 1991, is NOT exclusively showing parts for 1991-only carts. That's just the latest edition of the parts list for ALL gas DS carts from 1984 to October 1991.

At the bottom of each drawing of the tanks (as well as other stuff in the document) they list the serial numbers that each tank was used on. It reads "Effective Serial No. AGxxxxx... thru AGxxxx..." The two numbers directly after the "AG" are the model year, as underlined below:
