1993 CC clutch making snap noise
Have a 1993 Club Car DS. When driving it has started making a snap sound usually when accelerating. I decided today to investigate. I put in maintenance mode and watched the clutch operate and seemed to perform as normal. When increasing speed it starts separating and then slides back upon less pedal. It never made the snap sound with numerous tries. So I took the seat off and sat on a board to watch as I drove. I found the snap sound happened when the clutch was starting to separate. Everything seems to work as it should I think as it goes at a pretty good speed when pedaling down. I do notice that when beginning to accelerate at a certain speed it seems to "shift" into like a second gear. I assume probably when the clutch is moving huh? Thanks for any help!!

If you are feeling a "shift" its cuz the clutch is worn, internally or externally. If its mine, Id just put a new one on it and be done for the next 10 years

Re: 1993 CC clutch making snap noise
Any idea what the snap noise is?? It's like something is catching or binding, but does move as it should. No lube or anything on the clutch correct??

It may be just worn drive clutch "buttons", they're inexpensive, and somewhat easy to replace,
but you won't really know until you tear into it. And No... there's no lube required, they're designed to run dry. but, some have used a light coat of lithium grease on the buttons, and thrust washer. |

Re: 1993 CC clutch making snap noise
Have to read up on how to tear into the clutch, have seen numerous posts here. Probably wait for later this fall as it will be easier with the rear body removed. Or dont I have to remove the whole clutch to check the "buttons"??

Yes, you need to remove the drive clutch from the engine for inspection, and repair.

Re: 1993 CC clutch making snap noise
I discovered the "snap" noise is not coming from the driven clutch but the "other" clutch. The one that slides in and out when driving. After looking with the inspection door removed I noticed it slides out , but does not want to slide back when shutting the motor off. If I tap it with a hammer it snaps or slides back for normal starting. Is there anything I can do to lube this to make it slide back? That has been my starting issue, I not only have been trying to turn the engine over but also trying to move the cart with the starter. Too much work for the starter and battery.
