Default '91 gas club car ,engine will not start

Hi, I have a '91 club car , the starter /generator spins but belt spins on the engine pulley. I can manually turn the engine. Just wondered if a new belt would possibly allow the gen. to turn the engine. I have never had the " old girl " running as it was given to me ( in a non running condition) after the owner grew tired of it . I cant even check spark or compression until the engine turns over. Thanks for any input !

New belt, would help, also there is 3 bolts on the starter/generator that allow you to tighten the belt.... Also good time to inspect the main drive belt, may need changed too

Tighten the belt then go from there. You might not even need a new one, the problem may just be a loose belt.

You should be able to get a crowbar in between the motor and the starter/generator to hold the tension while you tighten the bolts. Helps to have an extra hand from someone else to do this.

ha, the gen. is at the most tightened spot , so the belt has been stretched . Looks it might be a bear to change the belt. im assuming the double pulley at the engine has to be removed. Is this correct ? thank you in advance for your response.

No you don't have to remove any pulleys and it's not a bear at all. First remove the large, wide drive belt by hand (at rest, the drive belt sits loose). You don't need any tools, just pull the edge of the belt up onto the lip of the driven clutch (the rear clutch) and roll it off. Then just loosen the starter/gen bolts and remove the small belt. I just replaced the starter/generator belt on my '90 last weekend. A Napa belt #25-7335 worked great.

yup, i just figured that out - " walked ' them off the pulleys and had just enough room to remove them. Thank you for the reply. i will replace them both and hopefully the engine will spin ( AND start) ! Thanks again for your help.

Just to clarify, it's normal to remove the large main drive belt with no tools, but the narrow starter/generator belt should only come off after loosening the s/g mounts. Your s/g belt must have really been either really stretched or someone put too long a belt on it to begin with.
