timing advance woodruff key for FE engines

While investigating performance enhancements for my FE350'ed 06 Turf1 I found listing for a replacement crankshaft/flywheel rotor woodruff key that has a slight offset that is described as providing about 4 degrees of timing change.
How effective would this modification be for an engine that isn't otherwise modified? What sort of off-the-shelf enhancements could be installed that could take advantage of this timing adjustment?

OK, I found -some- info on the timing key in the stickies, but not very much as pertains to an otherwise unmodified FE350.
Any insights?

Welcome to BGW unknwn!

I put one in my cart!
What it does is... it gets you from 0 to top speed in less time than the stock key,
basically, a better launch that sets you in your seat... however, it won't give you any extra top speed,
and may it not be noticeable if your new to your cart.

One side note, for as inexpensive as they are, it takes about 3 to 4 hours to install for the novice!

I'm really less concerned about top speed on the cart than most folks on this site. If I need to go 25+mph then I get the Mule 25/3010 into action.
My main use of the Turf1 is grounds maintenance and traveling end to end on the firing range. Pulling power and hill performance means more to me.
I have an Erlandson severe duty clutch calibration kit on the way, and want to cut my driven shivs to maximize the torque available, the key is just another aspect of squeezing that last ounce of grunt from the otherwise unmodified FE350 mill.
I don't plan on changing the wheel size or lifting the cart.
The condition of my exhaust & how restrictive it seems to be (when it doesn't have huge holes in it) are my over riding concern now.

The key "may" help with the little bit of extra grunt that your looking for, but you may not notice it! So that one is your call!

I was going to reply to your exhaust thread, but didn't have time...
the stock muffler is designed to have some restriction, as does the intake for the Kawi FE engines.

I had CPP's performance exhaust on my cart, it was a bit louder,
Sadly, my main use for my cart was to get around my campground,
and the owners asked me to take it off (which I did... 3 times! ) because I'd cruise somewhat late at night!

so does the timing advance key actually advance the engine timing ??
hence making it fire a little later getting a better combustion, burning the fuel better and cleaner ??

looks like a stock key machined to allow the shaft/ connector to offset some. so guess these engines do NOT have manual advance.

does this ever cause harder starting on cold days ?? i know on some you have to retard the spark on cold days !!

Did you replace the headpipe to engine gasket when taking off&on so many times?
Is the exhaust joint gasket metal-lined, multiple layered, a combination?

Advancing the timing actually makes ignition early before tdc regarding the timing the spark is after tdc the more you advance it will make it a little harder to start but I don't think a couple degree advance will make much of a difference
