Steering HARD after lift
Just got done with the 6" life on a 95 Gas DS. 22" tires on it. The steering is really hard to turn now,i mean its like working out lol. Any way to adjust this? I assume its cause of the bigger tires but man,im afraid im gonna hit something now if i need to turn in a hurry where before i could turn the wheel with 1 or 2 fingers, now it takes darn near all my might with 2 hands to turn it.

Re: Steering HARD after lift
no nothing is dragging on anything,it just takes a ton of effort to turn the steering wheel now with the 22" wheels on it. It seems they are too big,I was wondering if there was some different steering rack or something once you put bigger wheels on it. I am driving on a cinder road in a campground,it doesnt go off road ever. I have Stryker tires on it. THey are recommended for mild off road and street driving. We do drive through a grass field occasionally so they seemed the perfect tire.

Re: Steering HARD after lift
What happens if you put the original tires back on to test it?

Re: Steering HARD after lift
Just an idea but if you combo'd new bushings/ old king pins, see this recent thread about making sure they mate up well. Phasetim should know what he's talking about, I know I never thought about it being a problem.....

Re: Steering HARD after lift
Its a BU 6" lift. All new parts, new rims, new tires. Should the steering with the new tires be just as easy as with the old?
I cant put the old wheels on since they arent offset, they hit the spindles. |

Re: Steering HARD after lift
nurserob, You have got the struts adjusted to tight...
The t-shaped bars that bolt to the bottom of the spindles to adjust camber. If you pull them to far inward, it will create binding in the king pins. Loosen the struts and it will steer easier. That kit will steer harder than stock because of the design, but not two fisted... |
