Default Can I use a trailer wiring plug?

I hope this isn't too silly of a question but here goes. I found in the barn a brand new 4 pin flat wiring harness for a trailer. I was thinking that since the wires are all stuck together and it would make wiring the dash back to the fuse box that I'm planning on mounting near battery a whole lot easier than running a bunch of single wires.

I did a continuity test on the harness because on the one plug is green, yellow, brown,brown/green and white.

The mating plug only has green/brown/yellow/&white. So it appears that inside the one plug, the brown wire and brown/green wire are connected.

Could I use this harness to run my power and ground? And can I use the the brown/green for power too even though it shares the brown wire on the other end?

I know the wire colors aren't appropriate but wire is wire!...and it's free!

Thanks, Kim

I'm confused. How many wires are on each side of the plug?

Sorry, I was trying to be a detailed as possible There's no reason it won't work because it's just wire. I was more concerned about using the 2 brown wires (brn & brn/grn) that become one brown wire on the other plug. Like I said, I checked the continuity with the plugs together and both the brown wires on female plug go to the one brown wire on male plug

Those weather tight connectors are great! When I junk a vehicle, all of the easily removed wiring harness goes into a barrel kept in the garage.

Yes you can use that. It has 5 wires on the "trailer" side of the plug to be able to run the "running light" wire down each side of the trailer.
