Key start club car gas won't go forward or reverse

I have a key start club car gas model. 2004. My starter generator was giving me trouble. I replaced it after getting tired of the hammer method. After replacing it, the cart wouldn't start. Solenoid just clicks. I jumped the solenoid off the two big posts to test it and it started. Odd thing is it wouldn't move in forward or reverse while jumping the solenoid. I thought maybe a short / bad solenoid. I replaced it, now it will idle as usual, but still won't move in forward or reverse. Also would not shut off when I turned the key off. Had to remove battery cable to kill the cart. Any suggestions?

Is it in maintenance mode? Battery fully charged? Micro switches connected properly?
Recheck your wiring when you changed the solenoid and the starter.

Yes, all that is fine. New solenoid today, now it starts and shuts down correctly with the key. Still will not move forward or reverse. I checked the coil and I do have spark. I also cleaned the carb so its good as well. The small belt on the SG is spinning, but the clutch belt is not doing anything. I don't see the shiny shaft(under the spring) spining behind the big clutch wheel.

Any ideas on where to from here? Thanks

if the clutch turns the cart sould move shift cable broke? put in gear by hand then start only way the motor runs and not go is trans stuck between gears,has happened or shift lever key sheared,not shifting.

No the clutch is not turning. Shift cable is good. I checked that first. The only way to see if key is sheered is by taking off wheel and then clutch wheel?

if engine is spinning and Drive Clutch is NOT, maybe the key. you should be able to see the engine shaft spinning. also is the entire CLUTCH not spinning ??

Nope, entire clutch not spinning.

well if engine shaft is spinning and clutch is not, really sounds like the key.
should be easy to get the clutch assembly off, bc it should not be stuck on the shaft. remove belt and clutch should slide right off ??

Let's take a couple of steps back here!

For clarification...
Drive Clutch = Front... mounted on the engine. (also considered a "Primary" clutch)
Driven Clutch = Rear... mounted on the transaxle. (also considered a "Secondary" clutch)

This is what I'm getting out of this... You have a 2004 key start cart,
You've replaced the Starter/Generator, it starts and idles, BUT... the (rear) DRIVEN clutch isn't turning!
So this brings up a question, and a suggestion...

When the engine starts and idles... does the engine rev up higher than just an idle?
If not... the S/G is probably just cranking the engine over, and it's not actually running or idling.

To follow up with mrlmd's suggestion about checking the wiring...
Since you've replaced the S/G, double check the engine rotation while it's cranking over.

• Stand on the passenger side of the cart, looking at the DRIVE clutch while cranking it over,
• The drive clutch should turn Clockwise while cranking. (top of clutch spinning towards the front of the cart)
• If the DRIVE clutch is spinning counterclockwise while cranking? ... the S/G is wired backwards! (a pretty common situation)

If the engine starts, idles, AND... revs up? Then, it's something completely different!

Thank you for the info. It is spinning counter clockwise. The confusion is there's only one way to wire up the SG. I wired it up the same as the other. The only difference is the white wire that hooks up on the top of the SG, is placed on the very front of the it , the white wire barely reached. I really had to stretch and use every bit of slack it had to connect.

Is this the wrong SG for the cart? It's a Nidec drive systems.12 bolt. part # 114-04-4004. I got it from a big online cart store, not a cheap SG.
